Marys Mayhem Recce

One weekend in May, we headed out to Mudgee and Rylstone to check out the Marys Mayhem course. Here’s our preview of what’s to come for the event in August, captured by our friends at Ready Aim Media. It’s going to be a fantastic weekend, make sure you sign up and take advantage of the Early Bird Entry Discount before it’s too late.

The views around Mudgee are stunning and the gravel is perfect. Imagine riding through a mix of beautiful dense bushland then popping out over a crest and seeing vistas like this.

The main intersection of all three courses on Saturday.

Let’s hope we get a nice sunny day like this in August

One of the many curious forms of wildlife in the area who came to say “hi”

Just cruising, enjoying the smooth gravel roads

Mudgee has some pretty cool rocky outcrops and sheep….lots of sheep

Around 1200m of vertical on the Saturday Long course, it makes for a lovely fast ride and there are still some nice descents! Just a little different from Thunderbolts!

The Small Batch Brewery and Hop Farm, just outside Mudgee. Anton is already brewing up some special Ales for Graveleur. How does Oat Cream IPA or Cherry Stout sound just for starters? We’ll have a band, a marquee, and food trucks at the finish for you to enjoy the best recovery ever :)

Mmmmm dreaming of a Hazy IPA

The giant Hop flower is an appropriate centre piece for the beer garden with a view

Cans are 440mL. Careful of the 8% ABV. One can and you might feel lightly toasted.

The Globe Hotel in Rylstone has a modern restaurant cafe with a great menu featuring top quality local produce.

There is something about Rylstone that washes off that cursed head fog we bring with us from the big smoke. Find a spot and just breath.

The Wollemi Standing Stones. Rylstone’s tribute to Stonehenge. We’ve got something special planned for riders who take the detour on Sunday to find their centre.

Got an e-bike? Come and join us for Marys Mayhem.

The short course heads up Tongbong Road. This is a beautiful out and back ride for a total of 30km and 400m of climbing. Very civilised.

Get a group together or bring the family and enjoy this weekend together. Old friendships will be renewed and new ones formed.

The Autumn colours here are amazing. Come August it might look a little different but just as beautiful.

Down by the river we ride.

…and over the bridge.

Rylstone’s main street is just one cute little shop after the next.

The Globe Hotel, Rylstone. Rooms are available if you’d prefer to sleep just above the start line on Saturday night.

Cafe on Louee, straight across from the pub. Yep it’s good!
