The Gippsland-Monaro Strade Sterrate is a 600km mixed terrain, or in Audax Australia terms, Brevet Gravel ride. Approximately 50% of the course is dirt or gravel roads, or rail trail. The ride starts in Bairnsdale in Gippsland, Victoria, and ends in Canberra, ACT. It traverses the Australian Alps, the Monaro plains and finally into Canberra. Many of the roads are low volume back roads and incredibly scenic.
It’s a tough course, with an estimated 10,000m of climbing, 600km and of which about 50% is unsealed roads. There are long sections without services.
